Commissioned Reproductions
Commissioned by the William King Regional Arts Center in Abingdon, VA, both items here are replicated from originals made in the early 1920's. Both pieces were produced in very limited numbers exclusively for the Arts Center and are for sale in their gift shop.
Ash and Walnut Humidor
The original, found in Smyth County, VA., displays some of the regions finest 'Mountain Craft'. A very labor intensive piece, it was probably intended as a very personal gift.
Starting with 1,747 pieces of wood before shaping, this Ash and Walnut replica gave us some very clear insights as to what a labor of love the original was.
Dim. 9"W (incl. handles) X 7"H
Covered Goblet
The original goblet this piece was reproduced from was found in Southeast TN.
Formed of small hand-cut blocks of Ash and Walnut, it too represents the quality of work produced during the Craftsman Era. Sadly, the current owner knows nothing more of its origin.
