Quilted Poplar Table

This is one of three identical tables that are really quite special to us. 
We recieved a call and were asked if we could work with the clients wood.  We assured them that we could and went out to look at a blackened, grimy board covered in filth.  We learned that it had been cut by their father, some 80 years before, when he spent a summer working in a sawmill during his high school years.

The board was brought back to the shop and cleaned, revealing this beautiful caramel color.  Carefully going over it more than two dozen different ways, we finally decided on three tables; one for each of his children.  Legs were nested tight against one another and aprons came from within the crook of the legs.  When we were finished, all that was left of the 16' board was a small handful of scraps.

 Producing three "instant heirlooms" in one go, has proven to be one of our most rewarding commissions to date.
